The 2009 Atlantic Book Awards and Festival combines readings, author tours, book launches, and children's activities all over Atlantic Canada into one exciting celebration, capped off by an awards celebration. On April 15, at Alderney Landing Theatre in Dartmouth, NS, writers, readers, publishers, booksellers, and librarians join together to salute the best and the brightest at the 2009 Atlantic Book Awards

Every year, a committed group of volunteers stages this series of events to celebrate and draw attention to Atlantic Canadian writers, illustrators, and book publishers. For the first time this year, we are operating as the new non-profit organization, the Atlantic Book Awards Society. To continue to do this important work, we need the assistance of businesses and corporations who share our passion for writing and reading. Literacy is of vital importance for all Atlantic Canadians. By sponsoring the Atlantic Book Awards and Festival, you will be helping to support a strong, vibrant literary community in Atlantic Canada, encouraging the authors of tomorrow by celebrating the authors of today.

The Atlantic Book Awards Society is committed to doing its part to promote literacy. We are partnering with Feed the Mind, a Halifax-based non-profit organization that collects books for children and makes them available, free of charge, at family resource centres and food banks. We are asking those planning to attend the Atlantic Book Awards celebration to bring a donation of new or gently used children's books.

While we are currently partnering with Atlantic booksellers and publishers and have strong support from the book publishing community and library network, we need additional corporate support so that we can continue to offer free events in schools, bookstores, and libraries throughout the region. The Atlantic Book Awards and Festival is pleased to have the support of the major daily paper in each of the Atlantic provinces--the Chronicle Herald in Nova Scotia, the Telegraph-Journal in New Brunswick, The Guardian in PEI, and The Telegram in Newfoundland--each with a committed province-wide readership. These media sponsors help us celebrate, promote, and market the best in Atlantic books and those who support our authors and illustrators.

Please help make the 2009 Atlantic Book Awards and Festival a memorable and successful event. With your support, we can continue to grow this vital celebration of Atlantic books and bookmakers.
